  1. Who is your target audience?
    • Age
    • Gender
    • Income
    • Experience
    • Mentality (ie. what are they looking for?)
    • Problem (what solution can you offer them?)
  2. How will you attract your target visitor?
    • Traffic source
    • Branding
    • Web 2.0 vs Organic Search
    • PPC
    • Viral Marketing
  3. How will you monetize your target visitor?
    • Solution to his problem
    • How much is he willing to pay?
    • Is he ready to buy? (or do you need to convince him?)
    • Conversion rates
    • Monetization type (affiliate product, Adsense [experts only], CPA, list building)

If you can’t answer these questions and lay out your plan then I think we can agree you will have a lot of trouble running a business with your blog.

    Thanks for the comment Eric.

I have only been doing the blogging thing for 4 months so I’m not expecting much right now. The domain name is not ideal but my traffic has been increasing at a steady pace every month. I will keep working and see what happens.

    Shuck,

The point is that you are very unlikely to see results on your blog, despite your efforts. Why? Take a look at the planning factors that go into a site. Judging by your monetization it seems you’re trying to copy John Chow. But what works for him will not work for you.

I’m glad to hear you’re seeing increased traffic, but from where? Organic traffic or social? There is a big difference in sustainability and in terms of income potential.

In fact, if you were to take a step back and re-create your blog with the proper planning you could start seeing success within 4-6 months.
